Localized Global Geography of Religion

We left our shoes at the door and stepped into the Thai Buddhist temple in Waddell in the far west Valley only to be transported us into a global dimension right here at home in metropolitan Phoenix. We spent the day exploring the localized global geography of religion, visiting Buddhist, Hindu/Jain, and Sikh temples, a Bosnian mosque, a Muslim community center and mosque, and a Vietnamese church. The spectacular iconographic forms of these sites of worship instantly transport the viewer across the globe, as if by an architectural prosthesis linking transnational communities in southeast and south Asia, the Middle East, eastern Europe, etc.
